We apologise for not keeping this up-to-date - it’s so hard to explain how crazy life has become. We have calendars, dairies and we still can’t keep up with the play of where and when we are meant to be and who we are meant to be catching up with. It’s crazy. We have to book people in about 2 weeks in advance to be able to catch up. Is that sad? Or is that just the way in London? There is so much going on, but at the same time, it might possibly be the loneliest city in the world.
It’s so easy to get caught up in the London way of life, sometimes we have to remind each other why we are here – TO TRAVEL. Hard to leave this city sometimes as there is so much going on, so much to see, so much to do, so many people to have a beer with, so many people to party with. We repeatedly have to kick each other in the shins and remind us of all the places we want to see.
We have numerous trips booked in the next 3 months. By the time we get home at Christmas we would have been [since June] Australia, Indonesia, Singapore, Poland, Germany, United Kingdom, France, Spain, Prague and Italy... Hard to imagine really – Wonder if we have changed? Wonder if you have changed? Wonder if anything has changed? Doubt it – PERFECT, just the way we want it.
The first bouts of homesickness have kicked it. Boy oh boy do they suck!!! Its a strange feeling and hard to cope with. Especailly hard knowing how easy it would be to come back to NZ and carry on life as we knew it. We have to remind ourselves that if we were to do that, the moment after we saw everyone [friends and family] would be the moment we once again kicked ourselves in the shins - Nothing changes, everything will be there next year! Just have to keep on keeping on.
Chris has moved from London leaving me feeling a tad like Bridget Jones. He is living in Little Hampton [south border of England - on the beach] he is working as a Chippy/Builder and loving it! He is earning really amazing money which is awesome. Hard being apart from each other - but makes our weekends super fun and exciting. Currently one more sleep.
This weekend is TOAST NZ and supergroove are playing. EXCITING... Watch this space and we promise to upload photos soon.

]]>The weekend just gone we went on a car journey to Bristol, via Stone Henge and Bath. It was a fun weekend with lots of drinking [surprise surprise] and brilliant food. Bath is a gorgeous tourist town filled with lots of stone and brick and spectacular churches, although most of it was seen from a roof top spa – BLISS! Stone Hedge was exactly what you would expect – Mystical. Bristol a rather undesirable city [just like any other city, reminded me of Hamilton] but lots of fun to go out…
And for those of you that know...... and will laugh.... Look who we found lurking around in Bristol....
Not 100% what the plan for January and Melissa's wedding yet - We might be home for Christmas and New Years yet - We just realised there will be little point being here as everything shuts and there will be NO WORK.... Will keep you posted though. Be cheaper for us to be in NZ travelling on the Pound, than in London travelling on the Pound. Possibly be back and then leave to come back straight after the wedding... TO BE ADVISED
UPDATE SOON xoxox

]]>The past couple of weeks in London have been a BLAST. There is no possibility of ever getting bored in this city. There is just so much to do and so many places to go. We love it!! The job hunt is going to plan – Kylie has final interview for an Event Management job with huge pingers, Chris has already started work and has lots flying in at him. We are earning the POUND! It’s awesome, the bills are paid, food on the table and our NZ savings nicely stored away for a rainy day.
The weekend just gone was KORA. AWESOME! OFF THE HOOK! MIND BLOWING! We have many a tails but none of them are clean enough for this...
A few days before that we did an Amazing Race of London with Jimmy James which was wild. We have another ‘more in-depth’ tour booked with him this weekend, so I’m sure there will be more tails to follow.
London already feels like home – it’s crazy how fast you can turn nothing into something. We wish you would all hurry up and save your pounds and pents to come over, don’t wait until we are about to leave again. Our social calendar is jammed packed for the next few weekends – So watch this space, ITS JUST SOOO EXCITING!!

]]>Have been in London nearly a week and everything seems to be going smoothly now. The job interviews are coming in [can’t wait to earn the pound], we have seen how easy it is to get around London, we have seen how much there is to do here and we have seen how cheap it is to get to Europe from here. And travelling on the POUND is going to be AWESOME. Everything is good.
The London summer is nothing like home – in fact, it’s not really a summer [except sometimes it does get REALLY hot]. You wouldn’t go walking around in mini shorts, and you wouldn’t go outside with a cardie or jersey on your bag – it can turn cold REALLY quickly. London summer is all about BBQ’s and drinkies in the park.... wohooooo is legal to drink in the parks.
We went out for our first Saturday to the London Comedy Club. VERY FUNNY! I love British humour. We are going to Kora this Friday and both super excited, followed by early morning Bledislode Club match which we are going to watch at a Kiwi/Aussie bar... No sleep for these kids.
Keep in touch people and save all your pennies to come play on this side of the world! It’s fun times. We miss you all greatly so keep in touch...

]]>We arrived before everyone else so headed to the pub and waited. A few hours and a few Pivo’s later we were all pissed and rocking the karaoke bar [in Polish]. There was a strong Kiwi vibe around the hotel with 16 of us there; there were lots of laughs and funny stories flying from everyone’s travels [we had all arrived from different travels around the world]. One thing that we all quickly noticed was that no one spoke English, and for those that did – it was VERY limited. Asking for things like the Toilet Key was characterised and dramatic.
Words cannot explain the surroundings of Poland – so photos will have to do the trick. It was surreal for Chris to be in his homeland and it was awesome to share the experience together. I cannot describe everything we sore or felt, so here are some photos to do that for me.
From Warsaw we trained to Wroclaw [pronounced: Rockslath] which took about 6 hours through picturesque scenery. The entire trip was filled with laughter – so many funny situations. The source of many of our belly rubbing laughs was the language barrier.
We were greeted by Sam and Lukasz [Enough to bring a tear to your eye] and the rest of the Kiwi troop at the train station and escorted to SrodaSlaska in a bus [worse than the Tokoroa bus] – Beer was brought and wine was open. Sroda Slaska would be our home for the next 5 nights. We were extremely lucky to not just see Poland, but we lived Poland – we went off the beaten track and lived amongst the most fascinating people, we had to keep pinching ourselves to ensure we were really living it.
Sam’s Stag do was held in Wroclaw and what a hoot that was. We decided to do some training on the Vodka so we were prepared for the wedding – probably not such a good idea for a few, but lots of fun regardless.
THE POLISH WEDDING!
What and experience! Words once again cannot explain the surreal feeling of being involved and witnessing such a beautiful, traditional wedding. Explaining the wedding alone is a novel... This is our best go
• The wedding went for two days. Saturday from 3pm-4am and Sunday 3pm-9pm.
• We arrived to JoAnna’s house where we walked her and Sam to the wedding [together] in the village church. Everyone from the village came out of their houses and clapped them along.
• The ceremony was entirely in Poliska, so we actually have no idea what was said. It was a catholic ceremony [only known because they ate bread and drunk wine]
• Everyone dressed up to the hills – suits, ties, dresses, heals, the works.
• When leaving the ceremony we went in convoy to the reception [about half an hour drive away]. The Village people had set up ‘road blocks’ along the way. They block the road off, stop the traffic and do something neat for the newlyweds. This included giving them fancy champagne, making them scull it and then throw their glasses on the road. They then gave them real doves to realise together. They did something else we didn’t understand with a rolling pin, but the Polish loved it, so we are guessing it was good. Once all of this is done they then make the groom [Samuel] pay for taking the bride away from the village in VODKA. They barter the amount she is worth, JoAnna cost Sam about 20 bottles of Vodka.
• The reception was a hoot. Everyone was given a bottle of vodka and shot glass! YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO MIX THE VODKA, YOU MUST SHOT IT! As you can imagine this made for some entertaining experiences from the Kiwis [The polish are use to drinking it like that]. The first couple of shots were marked by pained faces, but after about the 5th – it was great! Food was continuously brought to your table. The band would get everyone up to dance and play games. It was absolutely a great couple of days... The games were similar to our drinking games, and everyone danced together [boy the Polish boys can groove].
• The kiwis got extremely messy but provided alot of laughs for the polish. One thing we noticed was that when we were all pissed we all spoke better Polish and the Polish spoke better English. We could communicate... interesting...
• One game that I didn’t quite understand.. They took the shoes off Joanna and Sam and then made them pay for their shoes back – In VODKA.
• The second day started slower to the first – everyone was hungover. After about the 3rd FORCED shot we were all on fire again and repeated the night over. More games, more dancing and more laughter.
MY DEAR GOD THIS IS A LONG BLOG
After the wedding nights we spent a couple more nights in the Village. We loved it! One night they hired an interpreter to come along to one of the famous boozy BBQs the Polish put on for us every night. We learnt about how they were treated in the war, about the concentration camps they were sent to, about the way of life in Poland. Fuck it was interesting!
So when we left Wroclaw for Krakow we decided we would have to go to Auschwitz [Oswiecim] and see the remains of the concentration camp. What a horrible place. What an airy place. What an awesome thing to see. But never will I ever go back there.... SO SAD! We did a tour of the camp and saw the mass gas champers where the Nazis would kill up to 6,000 people a day [children, women and weak men] and then burn them in the open air. We saw the places in which they would house the prisoners they decided to keep alive to work – these poor people only survived about 3months in the camp before they died of starvation, malnutrition, or suicide. It is HELL! We don’t realise how lucky we are to be alive in our generation. The 1940’s must have been a fucken nightmare. 1.5million people were killed at Auschwitz, their bodies and ashes still buried there.
Sorry we had to share the concentration camp story with you. But we need to remember it ourselves. The drive from Wroclaw to Krakow was interesting – 150km an hour is the speed limit and driving on the wrong side of the road, made for some hair rising screams from me and mum.
Poland was one of the best experiences we have ever had in our lives. Next time we go back will be to find where Chris Grandfather was born – and its right back on the top of our list to go as soon as we can. We loved it! Thank you Poland for everything...

]]>We meet a couple of FERAL Singapore [English speaking] girlies and spent the rest of the night showing them how kiwis drink – Sex on the Beach, Tequila, Tequila, Sex on the Beach, Tequila [went something like that].... We left the pool around midnight –Neither of us remember a thing! Woke up spewing in the rubbish bin and 35 degree heat. Not a good mix.
While on the Island
• Chris got to join the Elephant riding club which was lots of fun and heaps of laughs.
• Both of us ate far too much and now our stomachs have expanded to make our bodies think it’s normal. Vicious Cycle
• We both got nicely tanned
• We swam most of the day and lied in Hammocks at sunset
• We saw lots of freaky looking animals – including a dragon jumping into our swimming pool.
• We were there 3 days but wished it was a couple of days longer
Bintan Island was 100% relaxing! We spent most of our time in the pool [too hot to be anywhere else] and ate far too much. I would recommend Bintan Island to anyone looking for a getaway break.
We are currently in Poland and absolutely having a blast! Having so much fun living in a completely different culture where no one speaks English. It’s great for Chris to see his heritage, he is loving it and the wedding was absolutely amazing [2 days of shooting vodka...] but this is another blog all together with a million stories!! I will get onto this one shortly...

]]>Our first morning tour gave us a taste of all the cultures and history of the city. China Town, India Town, Orchard Road [37 Shopping Centres on one Street], The Business District, Botanical Gardens, The water front! One thing Clear – this government does not mind one bit spending money on the people and city! It’s truly gorgeous. We headed off on our first shopping venture at Vivo – MASSIVE SHOPPING centre. Didn’t matter if you missed a particular shop the first time round, there was a couple of every shop in there, it was so huge. The shopping mall even picked us up from our hotel and paid for our cab home.
We did a tour to Santosa Island which you get too on a Gondola – Freaky! Kylie held a snake but Chris was shit scared. We entered our first Museum on Santosa, and didn’t realise we would enjoy it that much. At night we went to the Santosa Island cultural tour – Lights, fireworks, firebombs, water. AMAZING! Chris was gobsmacked and loved it.
Singapore is definitely a must see again..... When we have more room for shopping and money to spend!

]]>The weather wasn’t too bad while we were there, nowhere near as cold as NZ but similar in conditions. It was hilarious pretending to be backpackers [that’s what we call it, because we did pretty well for our situation, but we did have backpacks]. The first couple of nights were spent in Perth – Highlights being catching up with Cara and meeting little Tytin and heading out for a yummy dinner and PLENTY of drinks with Mr Gilbert himself. After our first trek with our packs on our back [backpackers to train station in the rain] we trained down to Bunbury for a boozy few nights at Cousin Debbie’s and showed Chris around the South West of WA. BEAUTIFUL beaches. Big thanks to Deb and Glen for their wonder hospitality and for looking after me YET AGAIN.
From Bunbury we headed south to Dunsborough Beach, Eagle Bay, SugarLoaf and a few other amazing spots. Definitely a place to be in summer – although we considered the water warm enough to swim in as it was. The water is WAY warmer than home. We went to Busselton and the mighty huge wharf [where in the world do you have to pay to walk on a friggin wharf? – ok, it is 1.9km long – ONE WAY]
Wasn’t quite ready to leave the family and head back to Perth, but had to be done. More tears!!! Arrived in Perth and Gilby our hero hosted us for our last night [your heaps beeeached bro] and dropped us to the Airport at 5am [Top bloke!]..
In Singapore now. Stunning, clean, gorgeous city but far out its hot... Will update again soon xoxo
Big love to everyone. Email us kyemcgregor@hotmail.com
